“FAIRWAY FITNESS” AT THE BOULDERS TAKES A NEW APPROACH TO HELPING GOLFERS IMPROVE THEIR SWING
To golf professional Judith Roer of The Boulders Resort, the secret to a better swing lies in a very different kind of ball. Roer’s new "Fairway Fitness" classes employ large fitness balls to help golfers focus on the core muscles needed for an effective swing. Increased stability, stamina and strength result in more consistency and power with less exertion. According to Roer, "Getting the nervous system and the muscles to respond as required in the golf swing is important. We call it ‘functional fitness.’"Roer has designed and teaches three classes for her Fairway Fitness program. These include:
Golf Stretch & Conditioning
Using the fitness ball, free weights and flexibility techniques, participants increase muscle strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. Designed especially for golfers, its benefits include stronger drives with less exertion, better posture with less body strain, and decreased risk of back injuries and muscle pulls. The class is held two mornings per week (to accommodate golf tee times) and the schedule varies by the season.
Designed for all levels of golfers, this class employs a biomechanically precise method to enhance all facets of the game while increasing flexibility, strength, alignment and body awareness. The class is held two mornings per week (to accommodate tee times) and the schedule varies by the season.
Water Resistance Training
This personalized aquatic-based training is an effective approach to stretching and muscle conditioning. The heated water of the Watsu pool allows golfers to experience a greater range of motion, challenging muscles with less stress on the joints. A certified personal trainer customizes techniques to the golfer’s individual needs for use in their own pool. This is a 50- minute service.
